Thematic Appereception Test: Gointermediate

Thematic Apperception Test is the second objective test employed by the SSBs to test the personality of the candidate. It is also a test of the candidate’s imagination. If an outline or hazy and vague picture is shown to a candidate, he will interpret it according to his imagination. These pictures, therefore, stimulate the thought processes of the candidate and he is able to weave around it a story.

It is an attempt to let the candidate have flights of imagination. It is a method of exploring matter from a person’s subconscious mind by stimulating his fantasy and interpreting it. The candidate is encouraged to come out with ideas and inner hidden or latent material which will not be available to us normally.

Read:

Why  Thematic Apperception Test?

This pictures originally employed for this purpose were very vague. There was a great play of projection or inner subconsciousness in the interpretation of these T.A.T pictures  Pictures with greater  details and needing less play of projection and imagination were introduced by two psychologist, Murray and Margon, who used these in 1903 and the same are generally in use in India.
In TAT, the picture used by the SSBs are on the model of Murray’s pictures, but they are almost clear and not hazy. A set of 12 pictures is generally used including one blank slide. A slide of each picture is shown on a screen with the help of a magic lantern for half a minute and the candidates are required to write a story based on the picture in a period of four minutes in the particular space provided on the answer sheet.
These test is based on the theory that in the construction or stories around ambiguous pictures, the candidate organize material from his own personal experiences, partly as a result of the stimulus that he receives i.e. what he finds in the picture and partly his associations with such stimuli recalled from his past experiences.

Characteristics of the Story

The candidates must remember that there are certain essential elements or components of a well constructed story. These are:
  • The Hero: Each story must have a hero or the chief character with whom the writer identifies himself. The hero should exhibit qualities which an officer of the Armed Forces should possess. He should act and behave like a normal human being and not like a supernatural being.
  • Other characters who help the hero in the execution of the task undertaken by him.
  • Situation in the Story:
    • What it is ?
    • How it came into being or what events led up to it?
    • What will be the outcome or conclusion?
  • The them or plot:
    • It is an attempt by the hero, assisted by other characters to organize the story by pooling all the resources at this disposal in order to successfully solve the problem by him.
    • The plot should be interesting and end successfully.
    • It should be self-evident. The reader must not remain in doubt about it or keep on guessing it.

Tips to prepare for GTO Tasks in SSB: Half group task (HGT)
The aim of this task is to find the commanding capability of the candidate. The candidates are allowed to choose two members from the group. The candidate should have to cross an obstacle with the allotted men and the resources available within allotted time. As the number of candidates is reduced to half, GTO can minutely observe the leadership qualities of every candidate. Also in HGT, every candidate has a wider opportunity to show his various character traits and leadership qualities if in case he failed to do so in PGT. So you must give importance to HGT as this test will mark your leadership qualities. After the HGT, the GTO will form a clear cut assessment about every candidate and he assesses the candidates further in the following tests to confirm his earlier findings

  • Never look at the G.T.O while doing the tasks.
  • Give a good idea to the group if you don’t know any idea just helps the idea givers truthfully.

What is EKT in AFCAT Exam

EKT stands for Engineering Knowledge Test. It was started in the year 2014 conducted by Indian Air Force along with AFCAT-II (Air Force Common Admission Test). It aims at testing the basic knowledge of an engineering graduate applying for technical entry through AFCAT. This paper starts immediately after the written AFCAT exam of 2 hours. It contains questions dealing with basic concepts of your discipline of engineering and a thorough understanding of your basics will help you solve this easily. EKT has two parts namely:
Part-A : General Engineering (40 questions)
Part-B : Specialised Paper (35 questions)
General engineering part is based on the topics that are common to multiple branches of engineering. Whereas, specialised part is based on the knowledge of the discipline of the candidate’s degree.  These disciplines are Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering and Computer Engineering.

How to prepare for EKT:—

EKT stands for Engineering Knowledge Test. It is a simple test to check the basic knowledge related to engineering. This test will be conducted along with the Air Force Common Admission Test itself.

How to Prepare for EKT

  1. EKT is not a very difficult test; all it requires is thorough understanding of basics. So brush up and revise your basics nicely. Do not leave any portion untouched. The right time to begin your preparations for EKT is now. The syllabus for EKT is pretty huge and of course you can’t prepare in a day. So the right time to prepare for EKT is now. Don’t waste time and start gathering your resources.
  2. Speed is important in EKT so don’t get struck on any particular question for long. With the huge amount of people in the past who have passed AFCAT but failed in EKT, it is understandable that the test can be hard. However, it is trickier than hard. The key to success here is practice. Hence practice every day, without fail.
  3. When you are studying for EKT make sure you are referring to a reliable material. Study materials only from authorized and recognized sources. Otherwise, you’ll end up wasting your time, studying things which you don’t need to, and missing those which you need to.
  4. Do topic wise studies, i.e. decide and plan out that which portions you have to cover in a day. Stick to your plan and do complete the portion you have set for that day. In this way you’ll be able to cover maximum of the topics.
  5. Do see the previous year’s papers and other model papers to get an idea on the types of questions. This will also help you to practice the maximum of them. Links to previous year question papers.

Word Association Test:WAT

Word Association Test is day 2 activity in which 60 words are asked. Time permissible for this test is 15 minutes. It means you have 15 seconds to see the word and make a meaningful sentence of positive thinking.
Word Association Test is conducted by Psychologist. Three pages each consists of 20 words are given. And all the words are projected on a white board with the help of projector. After 15 seconds it means after completion of one word a short bell will be rung for alerting you about the next word. When you have finished 20 words, sufficient time is given for changing the page. This way complete your WAT without missing any word.
If you missed any word just leave a blank on your sheet, don’t write continuously.
Here we are giving you some good exercise of word Association Test.

While solving these exercise keep one watch with you and set time for 15 minutes.
No word to be answered negative. I repeat no word.
Click here to see the magic of solving wat.

it will help you a lot. If you have any material related to word Association Test please share it in comment. Or it is in any PDF format or something you can send on our email. Thanks for visiting.
